"Jackson's and Julia: A Celebration of the 101st Birthday of Julia Child" In celebration of famed chef Julia Child's 101st birthday on Thursday, August 15, Jackson's Steakhouse will be offering special features for lunch and dinner service in her honor. Julia Child was America's first, although fairly reluctant, food celebrity. Although she adamantly insisted that she wasn't a "chef," Child nonetheless single-handedly changed the way we think about food in this country. With a dozen cookbooks to her credit and countless hours of televised cooking shows, Julia Child demonstrated her mastery of French cuisine with unparalleled grace and ease. In addition to our regular lunch menu, Chef Irv Miller has created a Julia Child-inspired featured salad as well as a featured entrée. The salad is a take on Julia's recipe for Niçoise Salad - artisanal greens, green beans, shallots, tomatoes, capers, tuna, anchovy fillets and black niçoise olives. The entrée feature will be the beloved favorite and classic recipe, Beef Bourguignon - bacon, beef, onions, carrots, red wine, fresh herbs and mushrooms. For dinner, Chef Irv will offer a smaller, dinner Niçoise Salad with artisanal greens, green beans, shallots, tomatoes, capers, tuna, anchovy fillets and black olives and for the entrée feature, a couple of Julia's timeless recipes: Veal Marengo, a slow-braised brisket with tomatoes, onions, olives, garlic and white wine. In addition, a special side of Julia-inspired Ratatouille Casserole - baked summer eggplant, zucchini, tomatoes, bell peppers and onions with herbs de Provence - will be available. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some of Julia Child's most-loved recipes. For reservations, please call Jackson's Steakhouse, (850) 469-9898. Bon appetit!
