WSRE Presents Documentary Filmmaker Rory Kennedy

WSRE, PBS for the Gulf Coast, will present Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning producer Rory Kennedy at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19 as part of the station's Public Square Speakers Series. The free event will be held at the WSRE Jean & Paul Amos Performance Studio. Rory Kennedy's "Last Days in Vietnam" documentary premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated to win the Academy Award for Documentary Feature at the Oscars in 2015. The film documents the final days of the Vietnam War as the North Vietnamese closed in on Saigon and American officers waged a desperate effort to evacuate as many South Vietnamese as possible. The WSRE Public Square Speaker Series presents personalities known for contributions to education, the arts, sciences or media for public conversations on noteworthy topics and important issues.
